Parish Twinned with St Theresa's, Malawi

|
|
During the spring of 2006, the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, Sutton was twinned with St Theresa’s Parish, Champhira, Malawi. Known locally as Katete, St Theresa’s Parish was established in 1938 by the Missionaries of Africa and is the oldest of the fifteen parishes in the Mzuzu Diocese.
Katete is much larger than the Sutton parish, covering an area of 700 square
kilometres, and is divided into four administrative zones. It has twenty-eight
outstations and ninety-eight small churches some of which are still thatched
with grass. Each small church or substation serves several Christian communities.
It’s a huge area for Parish Priest Fr Joakim Mwale and his curate Fr Cypriano
Ngoma to look after.
Read further information about the parish in a letter from Malawi to Fr Jim in March
2006. |
